Remote controlled chlorine production

a new concept
to meet customer demand
sustainable and convenient

AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals is a leading European producer of amongst others chlorine and caustic soda for industrial applications. We operate Europe’s largest single chlorine manufacturing plant in Rotterdam and we have production sites in Delfzijl in the Netherlands, Skoghall in Sweden and Bitterfeld, Frankfurt and Ibbenbüren in Germany. Large scale production of chlorine has long been our core competence, and continues to be. But large scale production is not always feasible, which is why we are proud to announce a new breakthrough in the production of chlorine: small-scale chlorine production units, located at our customers’ manufacturing sites and remotely controlled by specialized AkzoNobel personnel.

The concept offers an ideal solution for certain applications and circumstances. The remote controlled chlorine units can be an alternative for chlorine transportation. And they can replace existing small plants that still use the outdated, environmentally disputable mercury electrolysis process, and which presently can not be economically converted with the existing technology. In this way the remote controlled chlorine units can overcome environmental and economic restrictions and provide premium reliability and safety profiles. The new concept therefore meets customer demands for chlorine in a sustainable and convenient way.
